Ask People To Subscribe
It sounds simple, but new subscribers are the most important factor for ranking higher in Apple Podcasts. It also means that subscribed listened will automatically download any new episodes when they’re published. Remind people to subscribe during your episodes.
Submit To Podcast Directories
Apple Podcasts is the biggest directory for podcasts, but Spotify and Google aren’t far behind. There are plenty of places where people find and listen to podcasts, so it’s important to get your podcast listed in as many places as you can. All of these directories are free, so you can list your podcast on them all.
Leverage Existing Assets
Make use of what you already have that is already attracting traffic. For example, if you already have a successful blog, website, email list, or Instagram, these are all excellent ways to let your existing audience know about your podcast.
Share Reviews And Testimonials
People love to hear their name on their favorite podcast. This is a simple tactic that will create a cycle of new engagement. There are several ways to do this, through reviews, testimonials, or through Q&A segments.
Here are the steps for an example Q&A segment that could help you:
- Ask people to tag you on their social media when they ask questions for your Q&A. Their friends and followers will be able to see these and find you to learn more about your podcast and maybe listen too.
- People like to hear their names spoken online, so when you mention someone, there are more likely to share that episode with others.
- Your listeners’ friends are likely to have similar interests and may check out the show if they share it.
- Other listeners will want to have their own questions asked during an episode, so should be encouraged to get in touch too.
- Repeat this cycle.
It might take you some to grow, but there are a lot of benefits to doing this. It’s a natural and simple way to get engagement, grow your podcast audience, and grow your social media channels at the same time, without annoying your existing audience with begs for shares.
Be A Guest On Other Shows
People already listening to podcasts are the easiest group to get to listen to your show. Being a guest on another podcast that has a similar audience to yours is a good way to reach new people and connect with potential new listeners. If you use a podcast production company, they may be able to link you with their other podcasts for this.
If you use the desktop iTunes app, you can find shows that have a similar audience to yours by clicking on the ‘Related’ tab. Start by seeing which of these shows have guests on and reach out to them. Make sure you do this politely and have a good reason for why having you on would benefit them too.
