The importance of diversifying your efforts cannot be underestimated. No doubt you are incorporating numerous strategies to engage your target market but also learning how to diversify yourself in other ways.

One of the best ways to diversify your effort is to expand into other territories. When you have an established business, it’s very likely that you are going to try and expand your handful of overseas conversions.

When you accidentally sell your business to someone in another country, this can open your eyes to another potentially lucrative audience. But, what are the things you need to consider before you start to really go global?

Understand Your Market

Conducting market research is crucial, but you have to remember that when you are promoting a product in another country, that you understand the customs and the culture. The goal is to make your platform saleable to a different target market.

And when you are learning to promote your product in other countries, it’s not just about speaking their language, but about speaking their “culture.” This means understanding how they go about doing things.

For example, if you are learning how to advertise in China, you have to consider that they are arguably the first “mobile-only” nation. So ensuring that everything is customizable for mobile viewing is crucial.

It’s one of those things that every website developer does now, but you have to remember that when it comes to understanding your market, it is about the little things as well as the big things.

Setting Up Separate URLs for Each Territory

Targeting different markets on an international spectrum is about those little things. If you are looking to gain trust, using a dedicated country-specific URL will not just appeal to a market on their level, but it will improve your local visibility, but will also improve your search engine rankings.

You may believe that you are ok with using the “.com” suffix, but when you look at Google, they’ve got every country covered!

Hire a Language Expert

Writing sales copy is not just about writing in English and then using Google Translate! It’s far better for you to use a translation company, despite the initial investment.

You’ve got to be aware of the subtleties of using another language. You have to remember that if visitors are presented with their mother tongue when they are visiting your website, they are four times more likely to purchase from you.

Put Google Translate away, and hire an expert.

Meet the Country-Specific Regulations

You must research the local taxes. Not doing this can put you in hot water. When you are faced with unexpected costs, this can leave you in over your head. But in addition to this, if your customers are faced with additional taxes to import products, will they buy from you again? It is unlikely.

It is a fantastic way to increase your reach as a business partner. but you have to remember that marketing in other territories is not just about copying and pasting what you currently do!
