How Ecommerce Saved The Business World

Written by Kyle McKinnon

During this very tough time, the world has seen what it would be like if there was no in-person retail.

Millions of people began to quickly make accounts on Ecommerce websites so they could carry on with their consumer habits, while not allowed to shop in stores. What we saw then, was nothing short of amazing.

Hundreds of billions of dollars flowed freely from people’s homes to websites, warehouses, delivery trucks and company headquarters.

It was quite the blow horn moment for Ecommerce. We knew it was powerful, but we just didn’t realize that it has the power to save the world from disaster. So how did it happen?

Security is first

Ecommerce can only be trusted if it’s secure. The main concern for customers is credit card and identity theft. So, the latest biometric offers from businesses that have made their own apps, really have hit home with customers.

Now, some login windows have fingerprint and iris detection gateways. So if you are shopping on your phone or tablet, you may be asked to confirm who you are and you must use your unique physical features to carry on through to the payment window in the checkout journey.

Work closely with banks and you can make your checkout process very secure indeed. For example, Lloyds has their own payment gateway which they give to businesses to use. They have made it themselves and this means, banks have had a center role in creating a secure process for accepting card payments.

Ecommerce businesses can therefore rely on the pros to get it right and no longer need to use third-party companies.

Brilliant product catalogs

Ecommerce brings people in because of the great and easy-to-use website designs. There’s no avoiding the fact that if your product catalog does not look appealing, customers will avoid shopping with you.

No matter how good the products may be, even the prices won’t keep customers coming back over and over because a bad catalog means.

  • You spend more time than you should finding the product you want.
  • You click on the wrong item mistakenly because the page is too cluttered.
  • The design of the website seems cheap. Normally you would expect a scammer website to show their products in a hap-hazard way.
  • Customers won’t sign up to the website and hand over their details willingly.

So you need to contact professionals that can build your product catalog to your wishes.

A company such as Cobiro has images of their case studies, showing the kinds of catalogs they have made. Clear, spaced, text is neatly placed in it’s own section, as well as discounts appearing to not obfuscate the price, name of the item, and product description.

Working with such an experienced company will give your Ecommerce website a real boost and a much lower bounce rate.

Better displaying techniques

Displaying products adequately has always been a concern for Ecommerce. It costs a decent amount of your marketing budget to photograph all of your products. It’s going to cost even more to get every product you sell, videoed from every angle. However, this is what needs to be done nowadays.

You have to get 360-degree shots of all your products, but only if your business is in the fashion, automobile and technology worlds. These are the major industries whereby looks are very important and not just function. Clothing especially, as you need to show your customers the style of each item, the length, size, material and how it would look like as it’s being worn.

Displaying has gotten better and better thanks to these techniques, and some products are even being shown with the use of a 360-degree camera.

So the customer can click and move their mouse around and look at the item from any angle they wish.

Reviews!

Confidence breeds confidence, especially when it comes to customer reviews. When you have an item that is consistently getting rated highly by paying customers, they will spread the word and more customers will be likely to buy a particular product.

So always encourage your customers to leave a rating via an email message upon purchasing a product. Promote your reviews as part of your marketing campaign! This cannot be shouted highly enough.

Ecommerce came to the rescue and kept economies from truly falling through. Thankfully new techniques have been taken on board by most business owners in this industry. This will mean higher and higher sales even after all of this is over.
