How to Improve Your Team

Your team is the driving force of your business, and when they work well together, the results are going to be phenomenal. Teams that work together can meet goals faster, understand the functions of their own role, how they fit with other team members and have higher motivation and productivity.

So here are a few things that you can do to make sure that you are getting the most out of your team.

Profiling

Often when people join your team, you might have a few tests that measure some personal traits, but not all of these will be comprehensive when it comes to how they will work within your team. A Firo Assessment can often give more workable data that can be used in unison with the Enneagram, Myers-Briggs, and even Chronotypes. The more data you have, the better a team you can build – working on their strengths at all times.

Meaningful Mission

If your company mission is wishy-washy and doesn’t really highlight anything in particular, then it will be received and treated that way. When your company’s mission is meaningful, your team can find meaning in their work.

As with everything, when there is a ‘why,’ there is a purpose. Giving your team a sense of purpose will then ignite the passion you want to see, and they need to do brilliant work.

Strengths

If you have one team member that is a great closer, let them use that strength and teach it to the others in the team too.

Once you understand your team’s individual strengths, you will be able to recognize that in a meaningful way. Celebrating their achievements and strengths means all team members are more likely to want to show their strong skill sets.

Open environment

If you are working from an office, rather than have everyone in cubicles or separated, offer a combination of focus working booths and an open environment. This will naturally encourage communication and collaboration within your team.

A strong sense of belonging and community will come from spending time with co-workers in the working environment.

Skill sharing

Each member of the team was hired because they have an interesting and useful skill set; knowledge sharing raises the capability of the individuals and the team at the same time. Collaborative software can help the teamwork together quickly and efficiently, which can also help with skill sharing.

Creativity

There is rarely just one way that a problem can be solved, and there is rarely just one person who can manage the task. Encourage creativity and collaboration when it comes to problem-solving.

Keep in mind that while some team members might not be forthcoming with their ideas in group settings, they might have the key to solving something. Create spaces where everyone is comfortable adding their ideas and suggestions.

Lead well

As the business owner or manager, if you aren’t taking part in collaboration and communication but simply overseeing – you will ostracize yourself from that dynamic. That fracture might mean that others are inclined to follow your example.

Lead well, and lead with teamwork in mind at all times.
