Why Health and Safety Training is So Important

Health and Safety training is often seen as a bit of a drag. ‘Health and safety gone mad’ seems to be everyone’s favorite phrase these days. Since tighter restrictions have come in regarding health and safety, it’s fair to say that some systems have been shut down or restricted. But what everyone seems to be forgetting is that they’ve been put to a stop because they weren’t safe. Don’t we want to be safe?

Health and safety is essential to a well-run business, where operations are smooth and employees feel safe. But, if that isn’t enough, health and safety can also bring economic benefits to a company. Here are the reasons why health and safety training is so important.

Legality

Health and safety training is mandated by the law. Breaking this law can result in fines–and, in the worst cases, to prosecution. In addition, if employees feel they have been injured due to a lack of health and safety protocol, they can sue. To avoid all of these costs, its best to ensure you have the best up-to-date health and safety measures.

Improve productivity

When thinking about health and safety protocol, you may think of it as a time-consuming waste, which slows down production. Yet, in truth, health and safety often improves productivity. Health and safety legislation requires a clear set of instructions with a step-by-step guide. Because of this, employees following health and safety tasks are able to do so quickly and efficiently.

On top of this, a safe working environment should make employees feel safer, and so work faster, free of distractions or fears. Teaching employees health and safety measures such as MyCPR NOW will give them a feeling of empowerment, which will translate to more efficient work.

Gets you more jobs

When organizations bid for a project, health and safety will be taken into account. If you have a long history of excellent health and safety, you will be more likely to get the big, profitable projects.

Reduces costs

Health and safety training can reduce your costs. While it may be a cost in the first place, over time it will save you much more money than you ever spent on the training. The more streamlined your operations are (due to your health and safety protocol), the less time projects take. For this reason, you’ll save money on employees’ working hours.

Plus, avoiding accidents in the workplace means you won’t have to fork out money for a replacement worker (and their training). With good health and safety, you’ll also ensure no employees leave for fears over their safety.

Of course, by having good health and safety meauses, you’ll also avoid the cost of fines.

You’ve got nothing to lose

Health and safety measures might be seen as a nuisance, but at the end of the day, you’ve got very little to lose from implementing them. In contrast, you’ve got loads to lose if you don’t. Fines, employee injuries, and missing out on big projects: are you sure you don’t need health and safety?
