Staying On Top Of Employee Concerns

Written by Kyle McKinnon

There’s a lot of things to worry about in business; growth, profit margins, whether or not you’ve got a stellar marketing campaign that people are buying into, etc.

But most of all, you need to be on a lookout for how your staff are feeling.

Staying on top of employee concerns, at all times, takes a special kind of manager, and now’s the time to determine if you’re one of them! Because when it comes to running a productive and efficient company, the happiness of your staff is the number one thing you should be working on.

And with that in mind, let’s go through a few of the main employee concerns you’re going to want to nip in the bud before.

Health and Safety

Your concern for your employee’s health should go further than protecting them from accidents, injury, and illness in the workplace. With the help of steps like integrating wellness programs, you can help contribute to longer-term health goals, such as managing better activity levels and food options in the workplace.

Health and safety is something we often describe as ‘gone mad’, but when it comes down to it, having a set list of rules to follow when you’re on the job ensures your employees are always going home feeling as healthy as they did when they came in.

Not to mention, in a world currently battling Coronavirus, following all government workplace guidelines is more important than ever before. Knowing you can keep your employees safe, as well as keeping your business turning over, will really set your mind at rest right now.

So, if you haven’t already, make sure you’ve set an alert for any health and safety updates.

Salary and Payroll

One of the biggest employee concerns, across the globe, is just how much you’re paying the people who work for you.

Having a reasonable salary, at the very least, is the top concern amongst people both in and out of top fields, and being able to openly share salary information is something a lot of people don’t realise they’re allowed to do when they’re at work.

And it’s why keeping on top of payroll concerns is essential to how your business operates.

Make sure you know the averages of the market, and make sure you know just how much work your employees are doing, and if they deserve more recompense for their labor.

You can also make good use of onboarding software to give yourself a detailed, regular breakdown of how you’re paying the people who work for you, which makes it a very easy concern to try and keep up with.

Inequality in the Workplace

And finally, employees are often worried about inequality in the workplace.

They’re worried someone is being paid more than them for the same amount of work, and they’re worried they’re worried they’re picking up all the bad shifts, or they’re taking on more than their fair share.

If you don’t know what’s going on in your workplace, and you’re not around to sort out equality issues when they arise (which happens quite commonly), it’s time to open up a dialogue.

Staying on top of employee concerns can seem impossible to do, but as the boss, it’s all a big part of your job.
